Established in 2010, Surf Girls Jamaica is Jamaica’s premiere all-girl surf club. Aimed at increasing the Jamaican female surfing population and promoting the sport of surfing, Surf Girls Jamaica provides a nurturing environment for female surfers of all ages to bond and share in a unique lifestyle and culture.
Based in Saint Andrew, Jamaica, the club is spearheaded by world-renown, award winning, Jamaican Female Surfing Champion, Imani Wilmot. Although still in its early stages, Surf Girls Jamaica has made, and continues to make, a significant impact on young and aspiring female surfers in the Caribbean.
The Jamaica Surfing Association (JSA), the national governing body for surfing in Jamaica, and the Jamnesia Surf Club (JSC) are pioneers in the development of Jamaican surfing and have initiated several youth development programs that incorporate the sport. Surfing for Autism and the Youth Exchange Program are just some of the initiatives geared toward promoting education and a healthy, active lifestyle among Jamaican and Caribbean youths. Surf Girls Jamaica, through itsSurf Like A Girl learn-to-surf events, has partnered with the JSA and JSC in order to target a portion of the population that is usually underrepresented in the sport of surfing – females.
